I am fascinated by what can be seen by simply observing from a fixed vantage position over a long time. The world changes before your eyes. Only the camera can testify to such an experience.

Inspired partially by Richard Misrach's "Golden Gate" work I have been photographing a scene below my home for several years. The view overlooking a portion of Chicago's lakefront and Monroe Harbor teems with activity all year. But it's in winter that it can sometimes become positively magic, rivaling anything I've seen of Antarctic scenery.

I captured all of these images from the same windows in my home during several years of simply staring at the scene below, in this set during winter. This project is very much a work-in-progress that will culminate in some type of printed presentation in the coming several years. I hope you enjoy this sampling as much as I do.
